Things to Do in Huddersfield |

About Huddersfield: Much of Huddersfield's original growth and prosperity was due to the former Lords of the Manor - the Ramsden family. During the Industrial Revolution Huddersfield built up an enviable reputation based on a first class textiles industry and its fine woollen worsteds are still sent to customers all over the world. The boom created by the textiles industry provided a rich legacy of fine Victorian buildings such as the railway station, once described as 'the finest façade of any such building in the Country'. Architecturally the town boasts an incredible 1,660 listed buildings - the third highest number in the country. Media and creative industries represent a growth sector for which Huddersfield is becoming increasingly acclaimed. All which go to make a stay at Cambridge Lodge both relaxing and convenient. |

Castle HillStanding over 900 feet above sea level Castle Hill dominates the local landscape, providing spectacular, often windswept views. The history of human activity on the hill goes back over 4000 years. The site was developed as an iron age hill fort, surrounded by defensive ditches and ramparts. In the Middle Ages there was a castle on the hill, of which the well remains. The present tower was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee of 1897. The site is a scheduled ancient monument. More information about the hill and its history can be found in displays at Tolson Museum. Photo by Richard Harvey |
